Q: Why did you want to serve full-time as a PT intern?
A: I was looking for a summer position, and one of my friends at college told me about PT. I have been very involved in various forms of children’s ministry, and PT seemed that it would be a great fit.
Q: What is the most important lesson you have learned from working with underserved youth?
A: All they want is your time and friendship. They are not looking for anything else. It seems trivial to just sit and work on a craft with a child, but those few minutes mean more to a child than anything else we can do for them.
Q: How has PT affected your faith journey?
A: This summer has showed me that when people get together to bring glory to God, he will bless them and the work they do. There is no way that we could make it all summer without God’s strength and love on our side.
Q: How has your experience with PT helped you to better understand your gifts and your calling?
A: In the team-based environment of PT, I have discovered my gift for calming and uplifting others. I have also discovered a much greater passion for helping children than I had ever known. Together, these two findings have helped to fully realize my call toward pediatric medicine.
Q: What is your favorite part of the Project Transformation experience?
A: Without a second thought, my favorite part of PT has been the new relationships. I have grown to love the kids at my site and the interns I work with. I have made strong, enduring friendships here. I hope to return another summer and continue to deepen these relationships while also forming new ones.
Q: What is the most important thing you will take away from serving through Project Transformation?
A: Memories. I have absolutely loved this experience! This has been the most rewarding time of my life. The children have been hilarious, compassionate, and just wonderful. The interns are kind, fun, and fantastic Christian examples. This has been a summer I will never forget.
Q: What advice would you give to a young adult who is interested in serving as a PT intern?
A: Be prepared for a summer that is unlike anything you can image. You will work hard and be tired, but you will still want to wake up early just to be able to see your kids each day. Be prepared to see God move in you and through you to impact a child. Don’t miss out on this opportunity!
