After-School Programs

September 12, 2011 – May 4, 2012

Programs for Children (entering grades 1 – 6)
PT’s after-school programs serve about 150 children and operate under the leadership of our young adult interns. Activities are focused on enriching body, mind and spirit.

Interns provide children with a safe, constructive environment from 3:00pm – 6:00pm. PT interns and volunteers offer academic assistance by helping children with homework and providing other enrichment activities. The children are served a healthy, balanced meal prepared by a cook recruited from the neighborhood. They also participate in educational games, Bible lessons, playground, nutrition lessons, computer activities, and guest presentations.

“Family Fun Nights” occur twice per semester. These evening events are developed by PT interns to engage the participating children, their families, the site church congregation, and other community members. A Family Fun Night typically includes a healthy meal, games, a performance by the children, and a time for community fellowship.

Programs for Youth (entering grades 6 – 9)
An after-school youth program is located at the Wesley Rankin Community Center. The program includes homework assistance, Bible study, facilitated small group discussions centered on youth issues, fellowship, and leadership development.
