AmeriCorps
Through the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), AmeriCorps provides opportunities for more than 70,000 Americans each year to give intensive service to their communities and country. CNCS works with governor-appointed state commissions, local and national nonprofits, faith-based groups, schools, and other civic organizations.
Young adult service is an essential element to Project Transformation's programming. Project Transformation is a proud recipient of funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service. In 2002, PT became an AmeriCorps State grantee when its Look-Learn-Lead program received funding for a one-year cycle.
In July 2003, Project Transformation was selected to receive AmeriCorps program funding. The grant is secured through the summer of 2009 and provides approximately half of the funding for the program. The AmeriCorps partnership encompasses the young adult service experience, summer day camps, and after-school program.
Young adult interns become AmeriCorps members through their service with Project Transformation. They also receive an education voucher, which can be used for school tuition or loan repayment.
