Intern Highlight

Chelsea Jones

I wanted to experience something totally different. I had worked with kids before and didn’t find it challenging for the most part, but after my first summer with PT, everything changed for me. I had never been so physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually exhausted in my life, but it was the very thing that tired me out that kept me going. The relationships that blossomed from just one summer still amazes me, and it’s something that I wouldn’t change for the world. MORE

I wanted to help raise and encourage future leaders of our community and country through Christ’s love and service. Being a positive influence in a child’s life is a priceless gift that has been shown to help kids overcome obstacles and have a positive affect, being a part of this process is extremely fun and humbling. I love kids so I was looking for summer job working with kids. Plus, I know my calling is in ministry, so the opportunities to explore those through Friday Experiences was also a major aspect of it. MORE

My passion in life is to help youth with their struggles through life, especially those who are in the most danger of going to jail or possibly dieing at a young age. I knew that once I became involved in PT that I would be able to help youth, not only in a physical or emotional way but also in a spiritual way. MORE

I spent the previous summer working at a week-long overnight camp for high school students, and I never felt like I had the time to really get to know and invest in the youth that were assigned to my cabin. Friends who had worked at PT in past summers spoke highly of their experiences as a PT intern, and I was really interested in working in a program where I could  MORE

I really saw PT as an opportunity to not only grow in my faith with a group of really strong Christians, but also to serve children who don’t have the same luxuries in their lives that I have.  I felt almost that I had a responsibility to give my service to the kids. MORE

PT was a growing experience on my faith journey.  Some of my beliefs—not just about God, but also about society and my role as an individual—were challenged, and some were cemented.  I did learn more about who I am and what is really important to me as far as my faith is concerned. MORE

The most important thing I will take away from serving PT is not taking the little things for granted.  My kids touched my heart in so many ways, and I do not ever want to let go of that.  They accepted me with my mid-western accent and my small town mentality for who I was.  We needed each other this summer and it truly was by the grace of God. MORE

Living in community I made friends with people who I feel I never would have anywhere else. Although I don’t talk consistently with them, I often think about some of the friends I made there and pray for them. From living in a Christian community I learned to trust others, I’d never lived in a community where I felt so respected by other people. MORE

I learned that there are people outside of your family that you can trust and go to for prayer when you need it the most. It made my relationship with God even stronger and made me appreciate my home church, which is my home away from home. MORE

After hearing about the program from a couple of my friends, I decided that it would be something that I wanted to do. The summer before I had almost applied, but I had decided to work at my church instead, where I was the youth/children’s ministry intern. With PT, I was happy to get more daily interaction with the children, as well as work with other people my age. MORE

When I heard about Project Transformation I felt like it was a perfect fit for what I sensed God was leading me to do with my time, gifts, and passions for the summer. I loved that PT was a holistic ministry meeting some critical needs of underserved children, youth, and communities. I guess I wanted to work with PT because I felt compelled by God to be a part of it! MORE

Anica Leitch

I wanted to serve as an intern because I wanted to minister to youth with an organization that is faith-based.  I also wanted to be serving in an organization that understands the importance of developing relationships within the community, and Project Transformation embodies this with their approach to ministry.
