Summer Programs
Summer Programs for Children and Youth
June 9 - July 30, 2008
Programs for Children (entering grades 1 - 5)
The children's summer day camp offers programming M-Th led by college interns. The program focuses on enriching the mind, body, and spirit.
The primary component is reading, where each child is paired with a volunteer to read one-to-one each morning. Project Transformation has been blessed with over 1,500 volunteers each year, many donating their time specifically to read with a child during the summer.
The day camp is filled with a variety of other activities, such as arts & crafts, music, recreation, computers, and theater. Also, the children enjoy a healthy, nutritious meal each day.
Programs for Youth (entering grades 6 – 9)
PT's summer youth program is comprised of an 8-week day camp and a one-week overnight skills development camp.
8-week day camp
The program is designed thematically, for a holistic learning experience to include athletic skills development, service projects, book club discussions, career exposure, and T.A.G. (Talk About God). In addition, professionals from a variety of careers present a hands-on learning activity to the youth, introducing them to opportunities in that field. Youth from select sites also participate weekly in Trips for Kids - PT, a mountain biking program that promotes healthy living, environmental education, team building, and personal development in an atmosphere that is exciting, positive, and fun. Each ride is preceded by a short course in bicycle safety and maintenance, trail etiquette, and nutrition.
Urban Camp
Urban Camp is a week-long overnight camping experience at the end of the summer youth program. For many of the youth, this is their first time away from home. The activities at camp are geared toward teambuilding and skill development. Each child is provided with a chance to succeed. Activities include horseback riding, archery, dance, mountain biking, high and low ropes challenge course, art, music, Frisbee, swimming, volleyball, football, basketball, fishing and other. Each evening includes a theme activity such as a luau or talent show following a worship gathering. The Urban Camp is staffed by Project Transformation summer interns.
